Colon Hydrotherapy and Weight Loss By: Josephine Goffe-Gardner, RN, ND
|
Weight loss and sluggish metabolic rates are usually enhanced with diet and exercise. These are great tools for managing weight loss, however, there are other techniques that can make weight loss goals easier to attain and also will contribute to greater overall health.
One of these techniques is Colon Hydrotherapy. Colon Hydrotherapy or colonic therapy addresses two of the most important causes of weigh gain; they are sluggish liver and stagnant lymphatic flow. The liver is the largest organ, weighing approximately 3.5 pounds and it is the major fat-burning organ. The liver produces many substances which maintain the balance in the body and also plays a central role in the detoxification of drugs. Drugs are taken up by the liver, degraded and excreted. The liver is placed strategically between the gut and the rest of the body. The liver acts as a filter and prevents the passage of bacteria from the gut entering the blood. The liver is also an important player in the body immune defense mechanism.
When you diet, the body releases toxins into the colon that are reabsorbed by the liver. This process has a tendency to make you crave the foods that you are trying to avoid. When the colon is cleansed by Colon Hydrotherapy, the liver is also cleansed. The cleansing causes the liver metabolic activity to improve which allows fat to burn more efficiently. As the liver function improves, so does the bodyâs energy. Increase energy makes you feel more like performing physical activities. Physical activity leads to increased muscle metabolism, improved muscle tone, which allows fat to burn on a continual basis.
The second factor of weight gain is lymphatic stagnation. Stagnation is effectively addressed by Colon Hydrotherapy. The lymphatic system is a network of delicate vessels spread throughout the body which transport a clear milky fluid that carries cellular waste to the colon and kidneys for elimination. After the waste is processed by the kidneys, it empties into the small intestines, passes into the large intestines, and out of the body with the feces. The lymphatic system stagnates when the lymphatic fluid consistency becomes thick with cellular debris, toxins, bacteria, viruses and dietary fats. The stagnated lymphatic fluid causes fatigue, malaise and also contributes to weight gain, especially around the abdomen, hips and buttocks. The stagnation may also cause water retention and cellulite.
When the colon is impacted with feces, the lymphatic system retains its waste which continues to circulate in the system. The lymph nodes in the abdominal region are forced to become storage for the waste. The lymphatic fluid becomes cloudy and thick; which is a health risk. The accumulated waste in the lymphatic system is toxic, which is an ideal environment for disease including cancer. Colon hydrotherapy allows the lymphatic system to function normally by keeping the colon clear of fecal impactions. |
